In 2001 I began studying the techniques of the old masters. Small panels, oil paint and tempera, the softest brushes, working months on a painting in a dustfree environment: that was and is my world.
But in 2004 things were brewing. Flocks of starlings flew up. A fluttering of wings.
In "work off the cuff" you will see what my eyes and hands make, as much and as fast as I can. They are in charge when I jot down paint "notes" at high speed. Without sublayer or sketch I work directly in the paint in order to find my way and balance between form, colour and power of expression.
